Fuse Problems

Fuse Startup Problems

I have installed the Fuse™ card and the installation software, however, I get a red "X" in the Fuse™ INIT icon at system startup.

Make sure that you have properly installed the Fuse™ card and that it is firmly seated in the PCI slot. Verify that the following components are in their proper places:

Aurora Fuse™ Driver into the Extensions folder

~Aurora Fuse™ INIT into the Extensions folder

Aurora Fuse™ PlaybackStrip into the Control Strip Modules folder

If the Fuse™ software components are in their proper places as noted above, then there may be a malfunction with the Fuse™ card. Try reinstalling the Fuse™ software from the CD-ROM and reseat the PCI card. If the problem persists, contact the manufacturer for information on resolving this issue.

What is the minimal driver version for Fuse™ to run on a G4 system running Mac OS 9?

1.8.4 available for download on the software page.

My Fuse™ system seems erratic, dropping lots of frames and performing poorly.

The Fuse™ system requires at least a PowerPC 603e processor, system 7.6 or later, and QuickTime™ 2.5 or later. If this is not the case, you need to upgrade the specific component and/or components that are not compliant.

I just made a movie but it will not play back out the video connectors.

This is probably because the movie was not made using the Aurora Video Systems MJPEG A compressor. Do a Movie Analysis on the movie and verify that it was compressed correctly (This tool is highlighted in Appendix C of the Manual - Tips and Techniques). If the movie was not made with the Aurora compressor, go back and re-make the movie using the Aurora Video Systems MJPEG A compressor (detailed in the Chapter 5 of the Manual - Using the Aurora Fuse™ system).

Also make sure that the Aurora Fuse™ PlaybackStrip is NOT set to Computer Only mode.

Known issues with Fuse™ and Adobe® Premiere® 4.2

The Stop Motion feature in Adobe® Premiere® is not currently supported by Fuse™.

Depending on what clips you have up on the Macintosh screen, the external monitor may momentarily loose sync, while Adobe® Premiere® updates all of these clips. The following are a few examples:

1 In the full version of Adobe® Premiere® 4.2, edits within the Trimming window may result in flickering or loss of sync on your external (NTSC) monitor, as the clip is being updated. To avoid this, we recommend editing in Computer only mode.

2 When building a Preview or Making a Movie, the video output connectors will lose sync. This is expected. This is done to save processing cycles during renders.

Fuse - Problems Capturing Video

The Fuse™ Video Digitizer does not appear as a Video input in a Digital Video Capture Application

Make sure that you have plugged the card in and properly installed the Fuse™ System software. The Fuse™ System software components will not appear in their proper places unless the Fuse™ Card is properly installed. Furthermore, the Fuse™ System installation software will not install the necessary software components unless it detects the Fuse™ Card in the system.

I have connected my video source to the Fuse™ card, but I do not see any video in the Preview window.

Make sure that the Aurora Video Systems digitizer has been selected in the "Video Input Source" settings as noted in the "Setting up the Aurora Fuse™" section of the manual. The Digitizer Field must be set to Aurora Video Systems, and the Input Field must be set to the appropriate video source connector on the back of the Fuse™ card - either S-Video or Composite.

During capture, the preview window on my Macintosh monitor is jerky and exhibits tearing effects.

The size of the preview window, along with the performance of the video system and PCI bus on your Macintosh, will effect the performance of the video preview. If you have a PCI based video card you should be able to achieve full window previews with minimal jerkiness or tearing.

If you are using the internal video on a Macintosh and the previews are jerky you may want to reduce the size of the preview window to either Half or Quarter size. Refer to the Setting up the Aurora Fuse™ section of the manual.

If the video is still jerky after all of the above steps have been taken, simply turn off the video preview as noted in Setting up the Aurora Fuse™.

Fuse - Problems Playing Back Video

When I play back a movie or do a "Print To Video" the Fuse™ card does not output any video

The Fuse™ System works only with Motion JPEG A (MJPA) files. If the movie you are trying to Print To Video or play back is in any other format (such as Cinepak or Photo - JPEG) than QuickTime will use a software decompressor - not the Fuse™ decompressor. Therefore, make sure that the movie content that you are working with has been compressed with either the Fuse™ compressor, Apple's Motion JPEG A software compressor or any third party Motion JPEG A compressor.

Additionally, make sure that the Aurora Fuse™ PlaybackStrip is NOT set to Computer Only mode.

I am unable to playback a movie at full size (640x480), instead the movie is smaller

First of all, make sure that the Fuse™ Playback control strip is configured properly. The Preview Mode should be set to either Computer Only or Computer and Video . Additionally the Computer Preview Size should be set to Full . Another important factor to consider is the size that the movie was captured in. If the movie was captured at 320x240 and you have the Computer Preview Size set to Full , then the playback will be at 320x240 not 640x480.

During playback, the playback window on my Macintosh monitor is not very fluid.

Using the Fuse™ PlaybackStrip module, set the Preview Mode to Computer Only. This dedicates all the bandwidth to the Macintosh monitor window that you are playing back on and will give you better results. This mode disables the video output connectors.

I've performed the setup above and my playback is still not very fluid

Using the Fuse™ PlaybackStrip module set the Computer Preview Size to either Half or Quarter.
