Aurora strives to make our customers experience with our products as trouble free as possible. This guide is provided to get you up and running as soon as possible so that you may be productive in the creation of your next video endeavor.
Installation of any of our products is a simple process, but requires you to install our card in an available PCI slot in your system. If you are not comfortable with this process, please have a qualified reseller or technician install the card for you.
Begin by shutting down your system and opening the case.
NOTE: make sure that you take the necessary precautions to avoid statically damaging your Aurora card or a component in your system. By properly grounding yourself to the metal frame on the computer (ensuring that the computer is properly plugged into a grounded AC outlet) you can safely insert your Aurora card in the system. For detailed instructions on how to do so, please refer to our manual or to the manual that came with your system.
Once the card is installed you can power on your system, insert the installation CD that came with your Aurora card and install our drivers. Simply double click on our installer and follow the on screen instructions. Once the drivers have been installed you will be required to restart the system.
After your Aurora card has been properly installed in the system you can connect all of your video and audio equipment to the Aurora card. Depending on which Aurora card you have purchased, there are many different options and configurations possible. We have outlined the most common configurations in our manual. Please take the time to read through the chapters of our manual outlining I/O connections. Make sure that you securely connect all video and I/O devices. Once you have connected all video and audio devices, use any QuickTime compatible application to verify that you have properly installed and connected your I/O. Verification can be broken down into the following steps:
(1) Make sure the card outputs video. Open System Preferences and select the Ignition preference pane. Select the Advanced tab and make sure that Enable Video in Legacy Applications is checked. Open one of our sample movies on our CD with QuickTime player. The video should appear on the output of your Aurora card and on your video monitoring device.
(2) Make sure the card outputs audio. This can be easily verified using the System Preferences in OS X. Launch System Preferences and select the Sound preference panel. Select the Sound Effects tab, select the Aurora card as the output device in the "Play alert and sound effects through" pull down menu.
Click on an alert in the "Choose an alert" table. Make sure that the volume is adequate and click on an alert. You should hear it on your audio monitoring device.
(3) Make sure the card captures video. Open up any QuickTime compatible application such as Final Cut Pro. Select File:Log and Capture. This will allow you to open a standard QuickTime panel allowing you to select the Aurora card as the input device. Once selected you should see video in the preview window.
(4) Make sure the card captures audio. Using the same procedure as step 3 above you should also hear the audio during a preview and see the audio levels meter changing in the preview window.
IgniterX supports many features which can be customized to operate in different ways. For this reason we supply a preference pane called Ignition that allows you to configure how IgniterX behaves in your editing system.
There are too many features to list here, therefore, please reference our detailed manual on how to configure IgniterX with our Ignition preference pane.
Once your system is properly configured, we hope that you enjoy using our product. Please register our product and if you want to be alerted to all driver updates and product announcements join our mailing list by sending an email to users@auroravideosys.com with 'news' in the subject field.
If you are unsuccessful in any of the above areas, please reread the appropriate sections in our manual (which contains more detailed information), peruse the troubleshooting section of our web site for common issues and, finally, if the problem persists, email our technical support department at support@auroravideosys.com.
